A 120.000-ton capacity Jatropha Processing Factory is built in Bolok, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. This factory is scheduled to operate December 1, 2006 and collect Jatropha from local farmers in 16 regencies of the province.
Chief Coordinator of Investment Department of East Nusa Tenggara, Stanis Stevanus said that the factory has been built in an area of five hectares in Bolok, “this factory is officially scheduled to operate December 1, 2006. All the supporting facilities are also built and we just wait the operating schedule. In some regencies, people have started to harvest Jatropha, but about where they are supposed to sell these Jatropha, we are still socializing it.”
Price
The Departement of Trade and Industry in each regency cooperating with local businessman are given the chance to collect Jatropha from the farmers between Rp 1000-Rp 2000 per kilogram, depend on the quality. These Jatropha are then sent to processing factory in Kupang to be processed into bio-oil in exchange of solar fuel.
Jatropha price shall not exceeding Rp 3000 per kilogram. In this way, Jatropha price in farmer level will not be higher than kerosene price today.
The capacity of this factory is adjusted to the amount of available raw material. Most Jatropha plantation nowadays have operated, 50 hectares in Belu, 40 hectares in North Timor, 100 hectares in East Sumba and another 100 hectares in West Sumba. In another regencies in East Nusa Tenggara, Jatropha is being planted.
Pertamina and PLN Kupang have ordered Jatropha oil product from Bolok to fulfill their operational need. So do some businessman from Jakarta. Prospect of Jatropha oil is quite bright.
Therefore, said Stevanus, the same mission and vision of East Nusa Tenggara people are need to support the bio-oil program. Doubts about Jatropha marketing are handled since the factory has operated.
This year, East Nusa Tenggara build Jatropha plantation in an area of 2546 hectares. In 2010, it is expected that 625.000 hectares platation has operated. Between 2007-2008 will be built three more Jatropha plantation, like in Flores, Sumba and Kefamenu. (Kompas).
